The Oliver House

DIY Weddings in Bisbee, Arizona at The Oliver House | Intimate Destination Weddings

Planning a wedding in Bisbee? The Oliver House offers a unique space for DIY weddings, intimate gatherings, and alternative destination weddings in Arizona—perfect for couples who want something personal, flexible, and a little unconventional.

Tucked into the hills of Old Bisbee, The Oliver House creates a wedding experience that feels more like a meaningful gathering than a traditional event venue.

If you’re dreaming of something cozy, creative, and deeply personal—we hope this is the place for you.

But before you fall in love (which people tend to do), it’s important to understand what makes weddings here a little different.

Small, Intimate Weddings at The Oliver House

Weddings at The Oliver House are best suited for smaller groups—typically around 30–40 guests, with an absolute maximum of 50.

The space naturally creates a warm, connected atmosphere:

  • A garden ceremony near the gazebo
  • Guests gathering across the front porch, back patio, and common areas
  • A reception that feels like a relaxed, welcoming house party

The Oliver House is not a ballroom or a traditional wedding venue.
It’s a historic boarding house—full of charm, character, and a slightly quirky Bisbee spirit.

For couples seeking an intimate wedding venue in Bisbee, our setting offers something truly special.

What a DIY Wedding Means at The Oliver House

The Oliver House is a DIY wedding venue, which means:

You bring the vision—we provide the space.

This includes:

  • Hiring your own vendors (photography, catering, rentals, etc.)
  • Bringing in rentals such as chairs, décor, or specialty items
  • Creating your own timeline and coordinating your event
  • Handling cleanup (or arranging help in advance)

We do not offer wedding planning services, but many couples love the flexibility this creates.

A DIY wedding in Bisbee allows you to:

  • Keep things intentional and budget-conscious
  • Choose vendors that reflect your style
  • Create a celebration that feels personal and meaningful

Planning a Destination Wedding in Bisbee, Arizona

One of the most special ways to experience The Oliver House is as a destination wedding where your group stays together on the property.

Instead of a single-day event, your wedding becomes a shared experience:

  • Up to ~30 guests can stay overnight
  • You can host a welcome gathering or rehearsal dinner
  • Enjoy a full wedding day without rushing
  • Spend a slow, restful morning together afterward

Many couples choose to book an additional night after the wedding to allow time for rest and cleanup—something we highly recommend.

This approach turns your wedding into something more connected, relaxed, and memorable than a traditional venue timeline.

Costs & Why Couples Choose DIY Weddings

One of the biggest advantages of hosting a wedding at The Oliver House is flexibility.

Without required packages or vendor lists, couples can often save significantly compared to traditional wedding venues.

A DIY approach allows you to:

  • Prioritize what matters most
  • Skip unnecessary extras
  • Stay within budget while still creating something beautiful

For many couples planning an Arizona destination wedding, this balance of affordability and experience is exactly what they’re looking for.

Important Things to Know Before You Book

Because of the nature of the property and the town, there are a few important limitations:

  • This is not a venue for large, formal weddings
  • The kitchen is residential, not commercial (catering is recommended)
  • Outdoor music must end by 10 pm due to local noise ordinances
  • Large seated dinners with extensive table setups are not ideal
  • We always recommend using local vendors (especially for catering), but additional vendors (such as hair, makeup, and nails) may be located in nearby towns (Sierra Vista).

We also strongly recommend booking an additional night after your wedding so you’re not managing cleanup, packing up, and checking out the next morning by 11 am.

If you would like assistance with setup, breakdown, or cleaning, this can sometimes be arranged in advance with The Oliver House Event Planner for an additional fee.
