During the Prohibition Era, speakeasies across the United States allowed citizens to socialize while partaking in “intoxicating liquors.” Many of these underground businesses, offering live jazz music and spirits, were well-kept secrets and only those privy to their whereabouts, rules, and passwords could enter.
Bisbee’s newest haunt, 26 Souls, will open around All Hallows Eve. Revel in a selection of beer and wine on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 7 pm to midnight. If you’re not a guest at the Oliver House, we welcome you to step back in history and enjoy our anything-but-spooky, atmosphere—just enter through the hotel’s back entrance in true speakeasy style.
These hallowed halls have plenty of tales to tell, and we’d love to add yours!
Nationally, Prohibition began in 1920, however, our great state was ahead of the game with Arizona’s first liquor regulation pre-dating our statehood.
The Oliver House, built in 1908, has a long history of housing some of Bisbee’s most notable guests during their travels. Home to 26 deaths or more, with several of these taking place during the Prohibition Era. It was during this time that our most famous friendly ghost, Nat Anderson, arrived.
If you’re hoping to make us your haunt away from home during spooky season, we have a few tips for making your trip a breeze.
We encourage you to book well in advance as this is our busy season!
Paranormal investigations are welcome but require prior approval by management. Please email oliverhousebisbee@gmail.com before making your reservation!
Due to the historic status of Oliver House, we only have a few rooms with private baths—but, we promise: the rooms with shared bathrooms are just as welcoming.
